What PRN Recruiters Are Actually Looking For: How To Create An Interview Magnet Resume

At Per Diem Plug, we see it all the time: brilliant, capable nurses who are absolutely exhausted from being run into the ground by traditional hospital systems. You have the skills to handle the most fast-paced environments, yet you’re sitting on the sidelines of the PRN life because you aren't sure how to bridge the gap.

Your journey to freedom starts with one critical tool: a perfect resume. In the PRN world, facilities need to know you can walk onto a unit and provide high-level care from minute one. They aren't just looking for a history of where you’ve worked; they are looking for immediate competency, adaptability, and diverse clinical experience.

The Anatomy of a High-Impact PRN Resume

Based on what we teach our community, here is how you build a resume that actually gets noticed by recruiters:

  • Professionalism First: Start with a clean header. Use a professional email address—no "childish" IDs from your teenage years. Include your LinkedIn profile link, but leave out personal details like your age, marital status, or a photo.

  • The Power of the Summary: Write a professional summary that is tailor-made for the job. Highlighting that you are a "compassionate registered nurse with experience in critical care" tells the recruiter exactly what you bring to the table immediately.

  • Focus on Relevance: List your education and work experience in reverse chronological order, starting with your most recent role. For PRN roles, only include experience related to nursing to keep the document crisp and impactful.

  • Action-Oriented Details: Use bullet points with "action verbs" like administered, monitored, or conducted. This proves you are an active, competent clinician who can handle the workload.

  • Beat the ATS: Most large facilities use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS). To pass, you must use keywords from the job's selection criteria. Avoid putting information in headers or footers, as the software often can’t scan those areas.

Why Your Resume is Your Ticket to Flexibility

A good resume doesn't just get you a job; it gives you leverage. When you highlight your ability to adapt to fast-paced situations and your certifications (like BLS or ACLS), you move from being "just another applicant" to a "must-hire" expert. This is how you stop being a cog in the machine and start "moving differently."

One of our community members, Kiara Kincaid, recently shared her powerful journey of making this shift:

"I want to share this for anyone in here who’s looking for accountability or real direction on how to leverage their nursing license. The mentorship program and close friends space are genuinely top tier. I made a promise to myself in December 2025 that I was done letting a hospital system run me into the ground. After working thirteen 12-hour shifts and taking home only $3,200 total... something clicked. That was my breaking point.

I started watching other nurses take risks, explore strikes, and move differently. I asked myself why I was sitting on the sidelines when we all get the same 24 hours... In January 2026, I told my partner I would be making $10K a week. Shortly after, I was blessed with a two-week assignment in NYC and... I transitioned straight into California and have been here ever since. If you’re on the fence, this is your sign to move."
